I'm baaack!

Yes, I know it has been forever and that is exactly what I didn't want to happen. But here I go again.
Not much new in the Barnett household. Michael will be leaving for a 2 week hunting trip next week, so Megh and I will have the house to ourselves. Great!...what will we eat?! Meghan is taking a microbiology class at UAA. She is still trying to decide if she should just leave for Texas or keep trying to find a job here. I just stay out of it! Her life.....her decisions.
We did climb Lazy Mountain again yesterday. I thought it was suppose to get easier??
I'll keep up with this blog now, and as soon as I get some pictures of anything exciting, I'll post them.

Wii

Well, my tourist days are over.....Dad and Diane are addicted to Wii. They are having bowling and golf tournaments! I'll try to get them hooked on Rockband next!

Portage Glacier

Today Dad, Diane and I went to Portage Glacier and Whittier. The glacier is a very pretty blue. Diane had on a Delaware sweatshirt and a man told her that it was worthless. Come to find out, he lives in Delaware too! Him and his wife have been visiting for a month and plan to be here four months total. He said he would sell everything and live here in a heart beat!
Whittier..... well, was Whittier! We paid $12 to go thru the tunnel and it took 10 minutes to see all of Whittier. It is very picturesque, but that's all there is. There was a Carnival Cruise Ship docked. I took them to where Michael and I got certified for scuba diving.
Then we went to Moose's Tooth in Anchorage for dinner. Delicious as usual.

WAHOO!!!

HE DID IT! My husband as "officially" a pilot!!! Congratulations Baby!

Hatcher's Pass

Well, I've been playing the tourist! I should say acting because I'm not very good at it. Dad and Diane have been asking all sorts of questions that I should know......but I don't! I just live here. The weather has been SO much more that I ever could have wished for! It has been positively beautiful, except for the light smoke from all the fires. It has been in the low 70's and mostly sunny. Perfect.
Today, we went to Independence Mine at Hatcher's Pass. We had a piece of homemade pie at Hatcher's Pass Lodge. It was really good.

Megh's visit

Megh came for a visit from Fairbanks. We went to the new restaurant in Wasilla called the Grape Bar. It's a nice place, expensive and small portions, but it does have potential.
She is digging in her stuff for a book......which she never found.
My Dad, Bill, and his better half, Diane will be here for the week. We will be doing all the silly tourist stuff.

Beautiful Day

Debbie and I went to DQ for a much needed ice cream break. It is still gorgeous there. I hope it lasts another two weeks when my Dad and Diane come for a visit. I know it's asking a lot, but it sure would be nice.
I am in the midst of planning a Stampin' Up! open house for July 22 and 23. Lots to do.
I am planning a trip up Lazy Mountain today after work.

A Relaxing Day

Sunday, was a nice relaxing day. We got up and did some wine work. We bottled the last of the cab we started in November. We have 15 bottles. It is a nice red wine. Michael and Meghan prefer the reds. We did the next step to the Pomegranate Zinfandel, so now it is sitting in a 6 gallon glass carboy.
Then Kathy and I hiked Lazy while Heather was sitting in Fairbanks drinking a beer. Brat! I had hiked on Friday by myself. That's no fun. There isn't anyone to listen to me complain about how hard it is.
Meghan arrived late in the afternoon. She will be visiting until later in the week. I'll have pictures of her in a day or two.

Happy 4th!

I went with Michael to the airport to do some minor work on the plane. After we grilled hamburgers (mooseburgers) for dinner. Nothing exciting. Still a gorgeous day.

Another HOT day!

Wow! I still can't believe our luck with this weather! Michael and I did more yard work. My flower bed has had more attention in the past month than it has had in 10 years! Here is the proof. Yes, I know it is upside down, but this thermometer is in the shade on our back porch!

New Wine

Michael and I worked in the "winery" last weekend. We bottled the last of the Italian red wine. We transferred the Gewurztraminer to a 3 gallon carboy and 12 bottles. Then we started a Pomegranate Zinfandel. It should be good. Right now it is seriously stinking up the kitchen! It might end up being our Christmas wine. It is a pretty red color.
There, I am finally caught up with this blog. You are all up to date with my boring life!

Purse Class

Last weekend I held an adorable purse class. We made this purse and the cards with Stampin' Up! supplies....of course. Too cute!

Heather on top of the world!

Here is Heather at the top, great view!

On Top of Old Lazy!

We finally made it!! Heather and I went to the top of Lazy Mountain. Wow! it was long and hard. I think it seemed harder because I didn't bring any water. I was so glad to be done.

Catch of the day

Here are the two lonely little halibut we caught on Friday.

Homer, Alaska

Wow! I have some catching up to do. We went halibut fishing in Homer on the weekend of July 19th. Friday, the 19th, was beautiful, in Homer that's a rare occasion. We went fishing all day. I caught the first and the biggest fish! Don't get too excited, it was only about 15-20 lbs. But a good eating fish. We only caught 2 the whole day. I took some great pictures with my extremely old camera. But true to itself, I could not download the pictures. Dang.
Saturday was crappy weather. The guys, Michael, Herb and Gordon went fishing again, with more luck this time. The girls, Dorothy, Karen, LeAnn and I went shopping and to lunch. It was also a perfect day.

These are wild irises that grow along the Glenn Highway. This picture does NO justice. They are really beautiful. The entire field is purple.

This is my Bleeding Heart that is about 12 years old. It is almost as tall as I am. I have never done anything with it until this year. I added some fertilizer, I'm sure it will die!

7 Mile Walk

OMG! These gals are going to kill me! I think I have figured it out. They really don't want me, "the oldest!! believe it or not!", hanging with them so they are trying to scare me off. Today we walked 7 miles, YES, SEVEN MILES. My legs were still screaming at me when we started, but it got a little better. They are planning a bike ride tomorrow, thank goodness I have to work!!
I came home from the walk and planted some flowers. Peonies, Foxglove, Holyhocks and a few snap dragons. It's beginning to look a lot like spring!

Bad day on Lazy Mountain!

Saturday, we (Heather, Rita, Kathy and I) met at 3 Bears at 8:15am. Oh yes, I actually got up early to climb a mountain. I don't get up early to go shopping! It had rained just a little on Friday night. As you can see, (Heather and I) the view is not the same as the day before. My legs were still sore from Friday's climb.....but Heather MADE me go!

HA! That will be the last time she makes me go! The trail was terrible! It took twice as long to get down the mountain as normal. We laughed most of the way. We made Heather sit in the back of the car with Rita's dog! Hee Hee
Heather, Buster and me loading into Rita's car. Note--Heather in the back with Buster!

Lazy Mountain

Well, Friday we climbed Lazy Mountain. It was a pretty nice day and the trail was great. It is definitely a tough climb. We met at 3 Bears at 11am....I think it was 11. Julie, Rita, Heather, Kathy (we call her Mountain Goat) and I hiked up to the picnic table. The picture above is Rita, Julie and Heather on our way up. The view is really beautiful.
This is me.

This is our fearless "Mountain Goat". What a view.....uh?

What A Day!

Today has been the best weather day EVER! It must be in the mid 70's! My armpits are "moist"! I was suppose to go to Juneau this weekend, but the trip has been postponed. I have a free weekend...not sure what to do. I am waiting for my dear hubby to come home with dinner...to hot to cook! Days like this ALMOST make winters here worth it.

Welcome Bella!

Well.... here she is....my latest grand-daughter!! I love the four legged ones!! This is Bellatryx or Bella for short. She lives in Fairbanks with her Mom, Meghan. She is stink'n cute. Actually, they both are. Meghan has been wanting a dog since she started college. I convinced her that she didn't have time to properly care and train a dog while in school. Well, Meghan graduated last month, so it was inevitable. Bella and Luka (her cat) are learning to get along.

Weekend at Talkeetna

WOW! What a fantastic weekend. The weather was perfect. We went downtown yesterday and visited all the local shops. I bought a cute Raven picture for Megh, she likes Ravens. We went to Beth's Bead store and got some earrings and a bracelet. Very nice stuff. Debbie and Lisa A have a contest going for the summer. They are taking pictures of doors. Yes, just normal front doors. Only in Talkeetna, they are very old looking. They actually have character. I am supose to be the judge at the end of this contest. I will pick the coolest door. (I can be bought!) Debbie and Lisa A made a scone run this morning at the Roadhouse. They have the very best scones in the world.
Lisa and I planned a stamping class for later this month. More to come on that.
Closing for now. Keep in touch.

Thursday, June 4, 2009

My dear friends, Debbie and Lisa A, and I are in Talkeetna "camping". It is a very nice evening, in the low 60's. It's 11:30pm and I can sit here and read a book with no lights on! Alaska does have its perks! I use the word "camping" loosely. We are in Debbie's motorhome with electric, water....beer...and wifi....life is good!
